My Journey With Vocal Processing and sound Toys (week 4 Blog 1)
Today in class we had a show and tell (OK sad tales). All the groups gave a short talk about what stage of the recording they were up too.
Now this was a real treat to hear some of the teams giving real positive feedback and they were presenting themselves professionally, and giving positivity to some negative set backs to their project plan.
Three teams presented their progress report before we did (DRAX), then it was our turn to give the low down on the show ground. We covered how we had drumming problems, and how my vocals went missing when l openned up my laptop on Friday at home, after we left the Neve studio. (Today we were able to get into the Neve studio and grab my vocal from the rubbish bin).
Now as we were talking about the vocal sound in our up close and personal forum, l mentioned that l was not happy with the vocal sound. It wasn't deep enough sounding and we really needed to have a person with a good strong low end vocal. As we had two lectures today for our therapy session, compared to the usual one overseeing what was going on. One of the lecturers said, why don't you process the vocals. He suggested to do some research and see what was available to get the sounds I was after, and include it in my blog about what I'd learnt. (What can one say when the obvious is being pointed out), So when l got home, l ripped off the side blinkers from the my head, and with a Twilight jump l entered the twenty first century in plugin world. I have already found some ear candy toys to use. (Thanks Teach)
At the moment l'm already trying out a plugin called 'Little Alter Boy' by Sound Toys. This vocal plugin can shift pitch and add overdrive to the vocals.

Demons by the bundle in the DAW
Finally found my King Drac sound. The song now has a devil in the DAW. I'm still going to see if l can track down some more plugins and see what other options are available, but l'm pretty happy with this demonic sound. The plugins I'm using really sound great and l'm looking forward to trying out different plugins this week.
This is what l'm up to at the moment, pic below
