The SAE, project one The DRAX. (week 2 Blog 1)
After hours on hours of putting together a pitch on powerpoint, we have finally created the right pitch to present to our peers. We initially had problems with computers crashing and the internet going down on some of the team members. All of these problems left us in a situation where we had to regroup quickly, and do the best job we could, to get the go ahead to start recording our song - Blood Suckers.
I was thinking to myself during the regroup.
Will we get it done on time?
Will it be good enough to get the go ahead to start recording?
Phil and l worked all day Saturday through to late Saturday night, early Sunday morning via internet and Slack to get the pitch right for Monday's morning presentation.
We did our pitch on the Monday morning to our peers and besides a few minor problems, it wasn't too bad and l feel we managed to get it just over the line. We did miss some key points which we should have put in.
For example:
Which DAW bit depth and sample rate we were going to use?
Find out more about animation video DAW settings
We also didn't include how we were going to promote the song.
But l think we managed to get most of the other parts of the pitch right.
So we at DRAX refer to our new style (or genre) as, Theatrical Heavy EDM - the creation of an old theatre atmosphere with dramatic gothic stage music presence and modern EDM with a hard rock/metal band vibe. This is the cover sheet for our pitch below.

l'm really looking forward to getting my fangs into the neck of this project. I've been jamming with the scratch track during the week with my guitar, and just seeing the best way l can contribute to the song - Blood Sucker.
We have set ourselves a 2 week deadline to get the tracks recorded. l know this is really putting pressure on ourselves, but we need to keep in front of this project the best way we can. If we come across any problems during the recording stage, we can make adjustments as we go along. So sharpen your fangs DRAX, it's time to bite in.
Just a little bit more on the blog update
We are now at the start of week 3 and here are some updates to our DRAX song we have come across, a couple of issues which could put us behind the 8 ball. We wanted to get as much of the recording done at home between Tuesday and Friday.
We have booked the Neve studio on Friday to lay down the vocal tracks. Hoping we can get it done in a couple of hours, (Dec, the drummer had work commitments and had to leave the studio right on time).
Now all great plans don't always work out.
We go to the Neve studio on the Friday, Dec was going to use an electronic drum kit for our Blood Sucker song and bring his recorded tracks with him. We uploaded his tracks onto ProTools DAW, but it didn't seem to sink in properly with the rest of the tracks. We also spent sometime getting used to the Neve console.
Tom emailed us to say he couldn't make it to the studio, and that he had sent his EDM sample of the song in an email to me. l had a listened to the samples in the song later that afternoon. (by the way the parts we can use, sounded awesome).
So what was the conclusion of the Friday session in the Neve studio.
We put down some vocals, but they were clipping the red in the dB meters in some parts of the song, so they have to be redone. Dec was going to redo the drums at SAE on Saturday, which l couldn't get there because of family commitments. (sorry Dec) l went and booked the Neve studio for next Friday after CIU class.

Before we left the Neve Studio on Friday afternoon, we all got out our memory devises (phones) and clicked some happy snaps. So we had pics of the Neve console for next Friday. Yes l'm hoping we can make up for some lost ground during week 3.
