1). Transferable skills:
Now, this is an area that I really hadn’t given that much attention too, until I was asked to explain what transferable skills were. It was a little bit embarrassing when my fellow trimester 6 buddy had to bail me out.
So transferable skills are broken into 2 sections, Soft skills and hard skills.
The soft skills - is all about your development as a person and the ability to improve your own personality traits. Are your communication skills good? Do other people understand you without getting confused? Would you make a good leader? Are you a team player? Are your time management skills allowing you to plan schedules and fulfill them out on time?
The hard skills - Are related to your technical knowledge, what skills can you do? Are you doing more training to improve your technical knowledge?
To be able to be successful in your discipline of choice, you need to constantly keep working on your transferable skills. I know personally I have some shortfalls in both these areas, but this is what personal growth is always about, Self-improvement, a lifetime learning curve and should be embraced in a positive reflection, and not squashed with negativity. I have so much to learn and explore.
2). EarMaster:
I really enjoy doing EarMaster, it’s a great way to challenge your abilities as a musician. I have also had an attempt at ‘tonedear.com’. I’m going to make ear training part of my weekly rituals. There is a lot of room for improvement in this field, and it would help me to no end and being able to distinguish between different musical challengers when listening to a piece of music. My aim is to be able to create the ability to write down whatever I hear accurately, and improve my workflow dramatically.
3). Musicology: (the study of music history, theory and the science of music)
This week I’ve been getting up to scratch with all the hometask activities. One of the exercises was to create a harmony line to a nursery rhyme and then put the midi file into ‘Musescore 3’ to create a music score. I picked Twinkle Twinkle Little Star; it was great having a go at creating a harmony line that would complement the nursery rhyme. To be able to create the harmony, I had to enter the nursery rhyme score into the DAW accurately then create the harmony. I used my AKIA MPK mini keyboard controller to data enter all of the score with, and then quantized and tidy up all of the note’s values to the correct length. Once I was satisfied with all the score data, then I entered the harmony notes.
At the moment I’m transcribing Freddy Mercury’s vocal line for ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ into a keyboard midi file. This is pretty challenging, and once I have transcribed it to the best of my ability, I then have to create a music score of the melody line, by using Musescore 3
